Joseph Campbell is a famous comparative mythologist in the 20 th century,and is also recognized as the successor of Freud and Jung in the field of mythology research of psychological school.At the same time,some scholars think that he is a postmodernist.In addition,Campbell has a very high reputation in the field of mass culture,even by the mass media as a generation of Western pop culture guru and an inspirational spiritual teacher.These diverse identities reflect the complexity of Campbell's mythological theory,but in fact,Campbell's views can be fundamentally unified.This article will take Campbell's mythological psychology theory as the starting point to explore his fundamental view to the myth in the field of psychology.Then pursue his conclusion of comparative mythology,that is,world mythology is a "Monomyth" born from the unified spirit of mankind.And summarize the diachronic evolution of this "Monomyth" in Campbell's history of world mythology.In the end,it will come to modern society along Campbell's exposition of world mythology history,to study the new mission of myth and mythology given by Campbell under the modern background,and the significance of artist and mass culture in rebuilding mythology.At the same time,it explores the hidden meaning behind it.The rebellion against modernity and the post-modern nihilism to correct the position.This paper attempts to present Campbell's mythological theory in a general way,sum up his contributions to the study of mythology and the significance of his view of post-modern mythology to the reconstruction of the human spirit and ultimate value in the present society.
