Terminology-centered Report On The Translation Of Introduction To Museum Exhibitions

Museum is like an encyclopedia and a palace of art,culture and history.It spreads knowledge and plays an important role in the collection and protection of cultural relics,display and exhibition and foreign exchange.Nowadays,museums become must-have places for tourists with its own advantages and characteristics.Therefore,the translations enable more tourists to feel the splendor of cultural exchanges and mutual learning,but also disseminate local tourism culture and the prosperity of local tourism and promote the communication between Chinese and Western cultures.This paper is based on the exposition of more than 30 museums in Toronto and Chicago,Canada.Museums in these two international metropolises have a wide variety of functions.The commentary includes not only the introduction of wonderful collections,but also the latest information on the exhibition to facilitate visitors.To complete the translation practice report,the translator selected more than 30 exhibition commentaries,from which typical terms are placed emphasis on for the analysis of translation strategy.Based on the translation theory of terminologies,this paper probes into the term translation in the introduction to museum exhibitions.Term is a unit of words in a language that represents specific or abstract theoretical concept in a particular field of expertise.Scholars have made fruitful research results in terminology and terminology translation.Based on the comprehension of translation texts and background of the translation materials,this paper analyzes the difficulties of terminology translation in the translation process and focuses on art-related,culture-related and history-related terms.The translator elaborates different translation strategies.In addition,although many researches have been done on terminology translation,there are few articles on museum exhibitions from the perspective of terminology translation.The translator has given the specific translation strategies and translations which might improve the translator’s competence,and make a modest contribution to the research and study of terminology translation.
