The ancient Greek civilization was also known as the "Aegean civilization" because its birth and development revolved around the Aegean Sea and its surrounding islands,while the Aegean Sea was an important part of the Mediterranean.The ancient Greeks had a long history of recognizing and using the Mediterranean Sea.At the same time,its understanding and exploration of the Mediterranean Sea also influenced all aspects of ancient Greek social life and literary creation.The process of the development and progress of the ancient Greek seafaring technology is also a process in which the ancient Greek civilization continuously deepened its understanding of the geographical ring itself and continuously learned to use the environment.It can be said that studying the ancient Greeks' sailing activities in the Mediterranean region has important theoretical value for the study of ancient Greek social life.At present,the study of ancient Greek civilization in the country involved in this area is relatively small,the only research results are based on other studies such as trade,colonization,war and other issues on the basis of some supplementary research.There is very little systematic and comprehensive study of the ancient Greeks' navigational activities in the Mediterranean region.Therefore,based on the research done by foreign scholars,this paper translates,summarizes and sorts out the research results in order to have a general understanding of the geographical environment of the ancient Mediterranean region and the ancient Greeks' marine activities in the Mediterranean region.This article is divided into five parts.The first part is a review.It mainly elaborates on the research background and significance of this article and the research status at home and abroad.The second part systematically summarizes and introduces the geographical evolution of the Mediterranean region,the birthplace of ancient Greek civilization,namely,the geographical environment of the Mediterranean region.First of all,it explains the geographic location of the Mediterranean,then summarizes the changes of the geographical environment in the Mediterranean,and then analyzes the Mediterranean climate again.Finally,it analyzes the influence of the geographical environment of the Mediterranean on the Greek maritime civilization.The third part analyzes the ancient Greek shipbuilding technology and navigation technology.First of all,it analyzes the construction technology of ancient Greece's nautical vessels and discusses them from the basic theory of vessel construction,manufacturing processes,hull changes,and power systems.Secondly,it analyzes navigation techniques and analyzes them from navigational seasons and methods of navigation.The fourth part revolves around the ancient Greeks' trade in the Mediterranean and the ancient Greeks' naval construction.The fifth part is the conclusion,which summarizes the main conclusions of this article.In short,the natural geographical environment of the Mediterranean region is both an opportunity for the ancient Greeks to carry out marine activities and is also an aid for ancient Greeks to carry out marine activities.The restriction of geographical conditions led to the unbalanced development of agricultural development in ancient Greece.At the same time,it also led to obstacles in communication between various cities.In order to develop and continue the civilization,and to communicate closely with the outside world,the ancient Greeks had to choose to proceed.Marine activities and the political,trade,military,and social life that have taken place around the sea.Ancient Greek society has a complete chain of maritime trade operations,including a series of related supporting measures such as fund lending and legal protection.Maritime trade is of vital importance to the life of ancient Greeks.At the same time,the seafaring culture is also the crystallization of the Greek people's courage to explore.This spirit of exploration has also exerted tremendous influence on the exploration of the oceans by later generations.
