A Report On The E-C Translation Of Coral Sea Softswitch Administration Manual(excerpts)from The Perspective Of Skopos Theory

With the speeding-up of globalization,more and more international corporations deploy their businesses in China.Localization of related product documentation such as administration manual / user manual / product description draws more and more attention from manufacturers or service provider in order to take a larger market share.Based on the translation of Coral Sea Softswitch Administration Manual(Chapter 1—Chapter 3)of Tadiran Telecom into Chinese,this thesis presents the process of preparation,makes a basic discussion on the features of the scientific text,introduces the theory and the strategies used in translating it and analyzes a number of typical examples.The source text is a scientific English text to provide the know-how to IT managers or technicians who will configure and maintain the Coral Sea Softswitch system.Skopos theory is used in the process of translation.Using the CAT tool to improve the efficiency of translation is also discussed in this thesis.The translator believes that a successful translation practice should be insured by some indispensable elements: basic understanding and necessary background knowledge of the technology involved in the source text,guidance of translation theory and strategies.And the assistance of CAT application will expedite the process of translation which “should be done with a specific skopos”.The translator hopes that this brief report will provide a reference for those who are interested in translation.
