Buddhism believes that all good works and all evil deeds are rooted in people’s hearts,and the heart plays a leading role in all aspects.The “heart” can make the individual become impetuous,delirious,jittery and apprehensive so as to disturb the harmonious development of the individual and the society;it can also lead the individual’s heart to have wisdom,get rid of the fetters and troubles,reach the state of freedom of the mind and promote the harmonious progress of the individual and the society.Therefore,the social harmony starts from the “heart”.Buddhist mindfulness and practice has played its own value from the following four phenomena: continuous perception of body,suffering,heart and dharma,or focusing on activities,communication and other objects in daily life: Firstly,from the perspective of Buddhism,mindfulness is regarded as the first practicing part of the Requisities ofEnlightment;beginning with the mindfulness of body,the mindfulness of sensation,mindfulness of thought and mindfulness of phenomena are practised in turn;the birth and death of body,suffering,heart and dharma can be understood clearly.The practice at each stage reveals the roots of pains and troubles of the human;the practice also has values for the impermanence to the Buddhists,putting down my hold,putting down the desire of greed,breaking the four upside down and so on.Mindfulness practice is the entry dharma of Buddhism practice,is also the only dharmaand free ferry,so its is known as the only Dowor the entry Dow.Secondly,according to the individual’s interests,mindfulness practice provides a skill that focuses on the present sense,that is,simple awareness of each idea and representation without judgement:use the power of awareness to block scattered thoughts or keep away from negative factorsconstantly enticing the heart to break the internal stability and peace,play the role of protecting the heart,and achieve the harmony within the body.Finally,according to the benefit of society,mindfulness cultivates empathy and compassion,makesthe society and the world develop a stable,healthy,harmonious benignoperation mode.Because Buddhist mindfulness practice has such intrinsic value,in1500 BC,the mindfulness was born in the philosophy of yoga.By the sixth century BC,Buddha Sakyamuni formally created the mindfulness practice and circulated it to now.At the same time,it also attracted many westerners’ identity and research;they applied oriental Buddhist mindfulness theory and practice method to various fields and developed a method to solve the physical and mental crisis.This paper focuses on the contemporary value of mindfulness;from the perspective of the origin of mindfulnessthoughts,thecontents and methods of practice,the status of Buddhist dharma,and the application of mindfulness in the fields of modern western psychology,medicine and so on,the mindfulness is analyzed and explained.The results of this paper not only provide a practical way to solve various problems or crises for modern people in a busy life,but also try to achieve a“automatic,self-adjusting,self-purifying and self-measuring” mode of life by Buddhist mindfulness practice.
