Grammatical metaphor was firstly introduced in An Introduction to Functional Grammar by Halliday.Later, grammatical metaphor is divided into ideational grammatical metaphor and interpersonal grammatical metaphor. To be specific, the function of ideational grammatical metaphor is reflected on six processes, including material, mental, relational, verbal, behavioral and existential processes and each process can be metaphorized into another.During the procession of metaphorization,a normal and congruent grammar form is transformed into another expression way. Therefore, one of the manifestations of metaphor is the change of word classes like nominalization which means a noun can be used, instead,to express the meaning of a verb,an adjective,an adverb or a preposition. In the source text, the abstract nouns transformed from verbs, adjectives and adverbs or prepositions occur frequently.Combined with the characteristics of the source text, analyzing the structure as the + abstract noun + of will be the focus. After exploring the relationship between the six processes and the abstract nouns,it can be gradually found that in most cases, for abstract nouns transformed from verbs which demonstrate material process, they can be translated by demetaphorization with corresponding translation skills.Secondly, for abstract nouns transformed from adjectives which represent quality, they can be translated into congruent form and metaphorical form, and the specific selection is determined by context. In addition, for abstract nouns transformed from adverbs or prepositions which play the role of circumstantial elements, the situation is relatively complicated and needs discussion.A large amount of translation practice has proved that ideational grammatical metaphor theory can guide the way of abstract nouns translation: one is that can help the translator understand the concepts in source text and the other is that offers two translation ways including congruent translation and metaphorical translation for comparison and selection.
