The Evolution Of Multidimensional Body Views In The Western World And Reflections On Body History

In the 1980 s,the body gradually became the focus of attention in the Western academic world,and many disciplines involved in the physical field.At the same time,body history was regarded as a branch of the history of new culture to enter the stage of historical research.The study of body history refers to the history of body’s development and change under different historical periods and different social circumstances.It can be said that it’s the history of civilization development which has been re-observed and reviewed from the perspective of the body.Including both the body’s own changes,but also the changes in people’s understanding of the body,that is,the view of the body.The appearance of body history not only broadened the new field of civilization history study,but also deepened and supplemented traditional historiography.This article mainly focuses on the empirical analysis method of history and the research methods of the history of thought.First of all,it analyzes the reasons why body history could has become into being.On this basis,the evolution of body views in different historical periods is combed from multiple dimensions,focusing on the social and cultural values attached to the body view.This includes the view of the body in the ancient Greek and medieval periods,the view of the body in the Renaissance and the Enlightenment period,and the view of the body in the modern and postmodern period.The corresponding characteristics of the times range from budding to generation,from ignorance to liberation,and from disenchantment to re—enchantment,discipline and punishment,the combing of a long-term view of the body can highlight the inner essence of the body,and explore the path of understanding of human history in Western history.In the end,this paper reflects on the rebellion and supplementation of body history to traditional historiography and its own insufficiency from the perspective of the compilation of history.It sums up and summarizes the three aspects of the research field,research methods and research contents of bodily history,and hopes to contribute to the mainstream and macro-historical development through reconsidering micro-historical history.This article aims to trace the development of Western civilization through the study of body history,so as to awaken human nature.
