Study On Shanxi Town In Ming Dynasty

Shanxi Town is an important link of the "Nine sides" in Ming Dynasty.It was established against the background of the constantly changing military and political situation between the Ming regime and Mongolia.There was a long history about the academic research on the border-town in Ming Dynasty,such as individual studies,as well as the integration of the border town and the Great Wall.However,there are few achievements in the study of "Shanxi Town".This paper is completed by using the most basic textual research method of history.For example,collecting the historical records related to the theme of "Shanxi Town" in the Ming Dynasty,clarifying the context among them for the purpose of clearing the construction situation of Shanxi Town in Ming Dynasty.In the chapter one,the author summarizes the Ming Dynasty "Nine sides".Making it clear that Shanxi Town is one of the Nine Border-towns in Ming Dynasty and sorting out that military and geographical situation is the same reason of every towns' construction.In the second chapter,the author discusses the military and geographical situation of Shanxi town: the unique natural-environment was the foundation of Shanxi town's establishment;the change of the defensive situation in the north became the direct factor for the Shanxi Town's establishment.Chapter three discusses the construction of Shanxi Town according to the historical data,including the establishment,the official system and the defense system of Shanxi Town.Chapter four discusses the transformation and abolishment of Shanxi Town: the military function of Shanxi Town was gradually weakened after the government announced "customs opening" in the late Ming Dynasty,and gradually turned to the economic and cultural function;after the establishment of the Qing Dynasty,The various castles under the Shanxi town have been reduced to wasteland,or become villages,or have been reclassified into the localadministrative system.At this point,the Shanxi town,which was set up in Ming Dynasty to resist the northern enemy,no longer exists.In summary,this paper summarizes the "Nine sides" of the Ming Dynasty,the military and geographical situation of Shanxi town,the establishment and abandonment,the setting up of official and the defense system,etc.This paper is completed in order to knowing more about Shanxi town.
