Conversion Of Content Words

Due to the differences in syntactic structures,means of expression and rhetorical devices between Chinese and English,parts of speech are used quite differently in Chinese and English.Therefore,to avoid the problems concerning confusing structure and illogicality of translation translators especially need to master the skills of conversions of parts of speech.In addition,content words in English have practical meaning in sentences and can serve as sentence elements such as the subject,the predicate and the object independently.The characteristics of content words in English have led to the methods of changing the parts of speech,which are especially important for E-C translation.Based on the translation practice of Reading Images-The Grammar of Visual Design(Second Edition),this translation report has summarized the conversions of content words in E-C translation by the analysis of content words in the book,which aims to make the translation fluent,accurate and elegant.The translation report can be divided into five parts.The first part is brief introduction to the translation project,which focuses on the project background and project significance.Chapter two is the process of the translation project.This chapter describes the preparation before the translation,translation process and proofreading after translation.The third chapter analyzes the characteristics of content word of the source text and shows the difficulties of the content words in translation accordingly.Chapter four is the case study.This chapter gives the concrete methods of conversions of parts of speech and analyzes them according to the translation of content words.Chapter five is the conclusion,which reviews and summarizes the translation practice.
