Brownfield is a special gift from the city deindustrialization to mankind. With the continuous development of industrialization, brownfields also spread around the world. After World War II,the United States is one of the world’s power. While enjoying the enormous dividend that industry brings as an engine of national economic development,it also suffers from the evil consequences of industrial development-the sufferings of brownfields.Since the 1950s,the industrial cities in the United States have successively gone through a series of industrialized campaigns of the closure, relocation and conversion of a large number of factories. As the pace of industrialization has been accelerating, major cities in the United States have adjusted their industrial structures in succession, leaving large areas of discarded industrial land-brownfields.These industrial sites have experienced long-term industrial production and have been subjected to large-scale industrial pollution. These pollution did not reach the extent of endangering human health, but developers are lingering fear of environmental pollution problems of such venues. This adds to the difficulty of redevelopment of these sites. On the other hand, most of the early factories were located in prime locations with large traffic and convenient transportation.Their idleness not only caused a lot of waste of urban land resources, but also caused immeasurable losses to the economic development of the entire city. Both the pollution of the site and the decadent urban landscape have a tremendous negative impact on the physical and mental health of urban residents.Faced with the problem of urban brownfields, the U.S.government conducted a series of researches on redevelopment of brownfields and adopted a series of related measures. This article is divided into four parts. The first part mainly introduces the impact of de-industrialization on brownfield in the United States and the damage caused by urban brownfield.Since the 1950s,the industrial cities in the United States have undergone a large number of industrialized movements that resulted in the closure, relocation and conversion of factories.Industrialization left a large abandoned industrial sites. These industrial sites, which have been losing ground due to their lack of proper development and utilization, have lost their competitive edge and have hindered the further development of the city. The second and third parts are the core of this article. These two chapters detail the brownfield redevelopment policies of all levels of government in the United States. In the United States, the federal and state governments assume the primary responsibility for brownfield redevelopment and local governments have played an irreplaceable role too.Through legislation and the promulgation of a large number of policies, all levels of government support brownfield redevelopment activities in the fields of economy, technology, employment and community coordination. The fourth part gives an overall assessment of the brownfield redevelopment in the United States.Redevelopment of brownfield has realistic urgency and necessity. The spread of brownfields in the United States has caused massive waste of urban land resources and triggered a series of social problems. Therefore, the redevelopment of brownfield resources is not only a sustainable investment in urban land resources, but also a construction of livable urban structure.
