A Consecutive Interpreting Report On The Technical Seminar Between RTE And Heilongjiang EPRI

With the increasing pressure on resources and the environment around the world,the increasing social requirements for environmental protection,energy saving and emission reduction and sustainable development,and the rapid development of connected smart technologies,the future grid systems are increasingly urgent for safe and clean power supply.To this end,countries have successively convened international conferences regarding smart grid technologies,in order to have constant exchanges in the power grid technology and other areas and to learn from each other.In international conferences,interpreters,serving as bridges for language communication,help two parties in the conference to communicate smoothly,which plays an indispensable role.I was fortunate to be commissioned by the Heilongjiang Electric Power Research Institute to participate in a small-scale technical seminar between the RTE France and the Heilongjiang Electric Power Research Institute in October 2016,and conducted on-site interpreting.With the background of this practice,a paper entitled “A Consecutive Interpreting Report on the Technical Seminar Between RTE and Heilongjiang EPRI” is written.Guided by interpretation theory,the linguistic features of EST(English for Science and Technology)is combined in this report to sum up some techniques and methods such as Omission,Merge,Repetition,Syntactic Promotion and Translation in Specific Mode for conference interpreting by analyzing specific problems encountered when doing interpreting,such as Pause,Information Loss and others.In this way,related corpus is accumulated,so as to achieve the desired research purposes.The technical seminar was divided into two parts.First of all,The Chinese-English consecutive interpretation was made in terms of the introduction on the operation status of Heilongjiang Electric Power Company in various aspects by Ding Yang,general manager of Heilongjiang Electric Power Co.,Ltd.In the second part,the English-Chinese consecutive interpretation was made by Mr.Jean Marc Baguet,the manager of the project management department of RTE France with a keynote speech themed as power system data and broadband.In this interpreting practice report,it is aimed to introduce the operation status and strength of the Heilongjiang Electric Power Research Institute,establish a corporate image,seek common development,and jointly deal with global energy and climate issues.At the same time,the author also aims to provide some lessons for interpreters specializing on power grids through this practical report.
