Geographical names are essential component of a language vocabulary system,which are named according to natural resources,geographical environment and human histories.Geographical names contains natural attributes as.well as social attributes,which are carriers carrying material culture and spiritual culture.Therefore,the study of the surface characteristics of place names often can be excavated to the deep cultural connotations.The place names in Yiwu are important carriers of the splendid culture of Yiwu,and it is also an important part of the language culture of Yiwu,so discussing places undoubtedly have important theoretical significance and practical value.This article will be in Yiwu 797 administrative villages and 788 streets as the research object.And the investigation will unflod from the perspectives of language and culture,the language features,naming and cultural connotations.This paper will also briefly narrate the evolution trend and the related situation of the names in Yiwu streets,and it will be divided into six chapters:The introduction firstly introduces the geography,history and origin of Yiwu city.Then on the definition and properties of the place name,the research status of place presented.The second chapter analyzes the language characteristics of place names in Yiwu.This part mainly from two aspects,vocabulary and pronunciation analysis of places in Yiwu.In terms of vocabulary,cross-referencing linguistics and toponymy,I will respectively research the proper nouns in Yiwu places and general names in Yiwu street names,using word frequency to analyze the cultural connotation behind it.Besides,the villagers and streets of word formation types are classified.On the phonetic aspect,I will analyze the syllables and Tone patterns of place names,and combine the datas and interpretations to show the phonetic features of place names.The third chapter enumerates the naming method of places in Yiwu,which are mainly related to natural geographic entities,social psychological related and economic trade.Among them,there are two types of natural geographical entities that are directly derived from natural geographical entities and similar to natural geographical entities.Place names related to social psychology including named after geographical azimuth,named after the clan name,naming,and named after the good fortune.The names of places associated with economic trade are named in trade places or named after local products.Chapter 4 analyzes the name of the streets from the diachronic aspect.In this chapter,I will examine the history of Yiwu streets’ name from the following aspects:the use of old names,the disappearance and emerging of names,and the change of names.Chapter five is a simple thought about the names in the city.In this chapter,I will summarize the achievements in the process of naming and the problems that still exist in Yiwu place names.On the basis of these,some reference countermeasures will be put forward.The last chapter is the conclusion.In this chapter,I will review and summarize the study of the full text.From the researches above,we can see that the proper name of the geographical names in Yiwu are dominated by disyllables;In the aspect of tonal pattern,most of place names have flat and narrow tones or end with even tone.In terms of word formation,the proper nouns in Yiwu are dominated by the positive structure,the juxtaposition structure and the additional structure.From the cultural aspect,the plece names in Yiwu penetrate the concept of clan,orientation,folklore,social mentality,economic culture and other cultural connotations.From the angle of diachronic,Yiwu streets’ names change due to urban development and road expansion.The management of Yiwu place names has been...
