Based on the researches before and the actual situation of Pakistani students,we developed a questionnaire to know their basic views of Chinese and Chinese characters,how they go about when learning Chinese characters.In addition,we found 39 Pakistani students who have learned Chinese for about one year and a half and made a test on them about Chinese characters recognition and writing,some basic knowledge about Chinese characters were also tested.Combining the analysis of Chinese characters acquisition strategies,we tried to study the relationship between different strategies and Chinese character achievement.Thus,we can grasp the features of their learning and recognition.On the one hand,we can enrich the studies so far,on the other hand,it helps us to know the features of Pakistani students in learning Chinese characters.The results of surveys on acquisition strategies show that the direct strategies Pakistani students use most is paying attention to pronunciation and meaning,and the indirect strategies they use most are self-monitoring strategies and affective strategies.The direct strategies which are seldom used is paying attention to the shape of characters,and the indirect strategies which are seldom used is planning one's study.Paying attention to its pronunciation and meaning,making conclusions,applying Chinese characters in reading and writing,trying to solve the problems they meet and self-monitoring are highly related to good scores.Thus,Pakistani students should be encouraged to use these strategies a lot during their learning.Besides,Pakistani students who have learned Chinese for about one year and a half have a good grasp of basic knowledge of Chinese characters,but some rules are overused,and their ability in elaborate processing is still limited.What's more,in the process of Chinese character recognition,extracting the pronunciation correctly is often the precondition of extracting the meaning correctly.Therefore,we should enhance the character teaching and pay more attention to details with the improvement of their learning so that they can develop their accuracy in recognize Chinese characters and thus accelerate the degree of automation and the speed of reading.
