The Image Of Paris In Hemingway's Novels

Ernest Miller Hemingway is a famous American writer of the 20th century.Most of Hemingway's works are based on the exotic space as the narrative background.It is related to his experience of living in foreign areas,and the experience of living in Paris during his young time has a profound impact on his whole life and writing.This paper focuses on three vividly personal works,which are A Moveable Feast,The Sun Also Rises,and The Snows of Kilimanjaro,to explore the presentation of Paris written by Hemingway with the relevant theory of Imagology.The image of Paris written by Hemingway is a description of the cultural reality and a mixture of his emotion and thought.Therefore,Hemingway,as the representative writer of the Lost Generation,portrays Paris as a space of American young people who experience the World War I losing and indulging themselves.This paper is divided into three parts.The introduction part introduces the origin of the topic,the research summary at home and abroad,the thinking of this paper.The text part is divided into three chapters.The first chapter analyzes the main characters of the three works,with the perspectives of lovers,friends and ordinary people,to explore these characters.The second chapter analyzes the space of Paris erected in these three works with the perspectives of cityscape,ecosystem and the imagery of labyrinth.The third chapter compares the image of Paris written by Hemingway and the previous American writers and contemporary writers to explore the influence on Hemingway's creation and significance given by Paris.The conclusion summarizes the Parisian image written by Hemingway,and hopes to arouse readers' further attention and thought.
