A Report On The Eighth Amity International Seminar Interpreting Project

In October,2017,the reporter attended "the Eighth Amity International Seminar on Autism&Workshop on Field Skill in Autism Education" jointly held by the Amity Foundation,Nanjing Brain Hospital and Joni and Friend.The project was mainly concerned with consecutive interpretation from English to Chinese.The reporter interpreted speeches about a personal experience of an autistic adult.The narrator is an autistic adult as well as a professional assistant of occupational therapist,an expert in autism.During the interpretation,the reporter encountered several difficulties and summarized them into three categories.The lack of coherence In the source language,unexpected pauses of the addressor and the addressor's lack of cross-cultural awareness.After tracing the real causes of the problem,the reporter found that the essence of a good interpreter is to grasp the logical relations between discourses in the process of inputting,make appropriate conjectures in the process of processing,and reduce cultural differences in the process of outputting.Therefore,the reporter summarizes three respective solutions.Namely,contextualizing,anticipating and explaining.Contextualizing the preceding speeches and trying to dig out the logic traces of the speaker can help the interpreter predict the following contents.When it comes.to specific examples and expressions,interpreters can properly add some related information so as to minimize cultural differences.As a result,the expected results can be achieved.
