On The Novel Writing Of Old Age In The New Century

Writing of old age is a type of literary work that depicts the living conditions and emotional life of the senior population.This thesis selects important works of urban “empty nest” novels since the beginning of the new century and systematically studies the themes,aesthetic values and the meaning behind the lines of the literary writing of old age through describing the look of urban “empty nests”,presenting their conditions and discussing their spiritual connotations.This thesis is divided into three parts: introduction,main body and conclusion.In the introduction part,the concept of “old age” is introduced,as well as the origin and development of literary writing of old age,and a summary of the achievements and deficiencies of literary writing of old age before the new century,based on which the significance and research methods of this thesis are explained.The body of this thesis is divided into three chapters: The first chapter focuses on the identity anxiety,emotional desolation and physical illnesses of urban senior empty nesters in the novel,showing how they look in their old age;the second chapter focuses on the modern narrative devices in the urban empty nest novels from three aspects,namely,narrative perspective,structure and rhetorical devices;the third chapter discusses the rich cultural connotations and deep philosophical implications of urban “empty nest” novels,facing the ethical causes of the urban “empty nest” dilemma,while discussing the novels' ultimate concern for individual life.The conclusion part summarizes the body of the thesis,briefly evaluates the writing of old age in the new century,and explores the future direction of this type of narrative.Novels on urban “empty nest” in the new century depict the diversity of the elderly's life and the possibility of them pursuing happiness.These novels not only express the writers' deep thoughts on the vicissitudes of intergenerational ethics and cultural heritage,call on society to pay more attention to the elderly and understand them,but also show their deep concern for the elderly people.These novels fulfill the quest for literature to transcend life and reflect reality.
