Life is full of all kinds of problems,so how well we live depends on how well we deal with the problems in our lives.Critical thinking is the ability that we can make reasonable decisions about what to believe and what to do.That means critical thinking is the key to the door of happy life.In recent years,critical thinking has become one of the hot spots in the field of education research at home and abroad.Besides it,how to cultivate talents with critical thinking is also one of the urgent problems.As we all know,reading teaching is regarded as the main content and basic part of English teaching,which focuses on cultivating students’ ability to master the language points,process the information and apply the language.At the same time,it is also one of the important ways to cultivate students,critical thinking ability.So it’s necessary and feasible for us to do the research on the cultivation of critical thinking in English reading class in junior high schools.This study makes use of some survey methods,such as literature research methods,interviews and questionnaires.First of all,this study investigates and analyzes the current situation of junior high English reading class,and concludes that students’ critical thinking ability is insufficiently trained.Then a critical reading teaching for one year is conducted in one class of Danyang Middle School in Xiaogan.After that,it uses SPSS 19.0 to analyze students’ data differences in CTDI-CV critical thinking ability scale survey before and after the teaching practice,aiming to explore the effective ways of cultivating critical thinking ability in junior high reading class from the viewpoints of teachers.According to the research results,in junior high English reading teaching class,teachers can change students’ thinking mode;use mind maps;guide students to use reading strategies to cultivate students’ critical thinking ability.So this paper presents a reference for cultivating critical thinking in reading class.
