This dissertation is a translation project report, which is selected from the last chapter of the novel "family portrait" by the Japanese contemporary writer hiroshi hagihara. This chapter is a continuation of hagihara's style, which is ingenious, closely related to life, full of the warmth of kinship and family cohesion. Thus,it is of high literary readability and human warmth.Family harmony is the eternal pursuit in different times and different countries. Therefore, the translation in this dissertation puts the target readers in the core position, striving for a clear, smoothy and vivid expression of the family warmth between the lines, hoping to achieve the emotional resonance with the target readers. This dissertation guides the translation practice mainly by adopting Peter newmark's text type translation theory.Peter newmark determines the text type and then the type of translation strategies by establishing the model of text types and the dominant functions.Newmark proposes two translation strategies, namely "semantic translation" and "communicative translation".The extracted Family Photo belongs to popular fiction, aiming to infect the readers. Therefore, the vocative function is given priority to.To tunnel and accurately convey the euphemistic connotation of Japanese literature, the translator selects "communicative translation".Different from "semantic translation",which is objective of the source language culture,"communicative translation" is subjective, which pays more attention to the target readers' response, striving to understand the translation easily and smoothly. After reading through the Family Photo, the author finds that it is made up of seven short novels about the family affection whose themes are consistent. It compliments after criticizing, like a light in the dark and a glimmer of hope in despair, letting people understand life and warm their hearts on winding paths. Moreover, the original text involves a lot of photography terms, which increases the difficulty in translation. Therefore,it is necessary to have a thorough understanding of the author and works and an extensive consultation of the relevant materials so as to understand and translate the works more accurately.Through this translation practice, the author has realized the importance of mastering the source language culture and expanding the field of reading in various fields, and also realized her own shortcomings. In the future translation, the author will constantly improve and expand herself to climb the peak of the art of translation and to contribute to the exchanges between China and Japan.
