The modal particle plays an important role in Chinese oral communication being one of the most important means by which to express mood:it is one of the important grammatical features of Chinese.This paper begins by exploring the process of linguistic acquisition of the modal particle "ba"(吧)among students from Thailand who are learning Chinese.The paper then analyzes the usage of"ba" in the "Developing Chinese" and "Boya Chinese" textbook series,which are often used in the teaching of Chinese in Thailand.A comparison of the arrangement,interpretation and practice given for "ba" in the two textbooks is made.Finally,according to the situation of Thailand students’ understanding of the usage of "ba" and the editing of material related to "ba"in Chinese textbooks for foreigners,some suggestions and strategies for textbook compilation and teaching are put forward.The full text is divided into five parts:The first section is the introduction,including the reasons for the topic,the significance of the topic,the status of the research,the method of research,the source of the corpus and so on.The second section focuses on the Thailand students’ acquisition of "ba".We investigated 60 students from Thailand at Huazhong Normal University and Valaya Alongkom Rajabhat University in Bangkok,Thailand,and describes the investigation and design of the study,including the purpose,subjects,methods and contents.Then the paper analyzes the survey results,including the basic situation of the students,the accuracy of questionnaire,and the situations of acquisition of "ba".The questions which had an error rate of more than 40%are analyzed to find out the erroneous usages of students from Thailand are prone to make and to find the cause of these erroneous usages.In order to get the acquisition order of the usage of "ba",this part makes a statistical analysis of the correct rate of each usage in different stages,and is able to describe the student’s acquisition sequence of modal particle "ba".The third section is mainly to analyze the compilation of "ba" in the textbook of in the "Developing Chinese" and "Boya Chinese" textbook series.Firstly,using examples which from two textbooks to explain the nine usage of "ba",and then from three aspects of layout,interpretation and practice,the compilation of "ba" in this two textbook is analyzed,including the frequency,order and practice type.We find out the advantages and disadvantages of the different methods through horizontal and vertical comparison.The fourth section is the teaching proposal of "ba" for students from Thailand,including suggestions for teaching and compilation of Chinese textbooks.The suggestions for classroom teaching are mainly directed toward improving the linguistic acquisition of students from Thailand,including stage teaching,situational teaching,comparative teaching and supplementary teaching.From the foundation of the previous section in which analysis of the two sets of textbooks is made,this section puts forward suggestions for writing teaching materials from the layout,interpretation,practice.The fifth section is the conclusion,summarizing the full text,mainly including the research results,innovation and shortcomings. |
