| Role-play as an instructional technique to develop an individual’s initiative was first put forward by Moreno(J.D.Moreno).It has been applied to selection and training,psychological counseling,social skills and many other aspects.The rise of quality education,makes role-play a widely used important teaching method in the classroom.Many studies have been carried on the application of role-play both in English teaching and also in accounting teaching.But,on the whole,the research on the application of role-play teaching method in accounting English teaching is relatively scarce.Taking the Institute of Technology,East China Jiaotong University as an example,this research studies the application of role-play teaching method in accounting English teaching.It adopts the methods of the experiment,the questionnaire and the interview to study the application of role-play teaching method in accounting English teaching,and aims at further reforming the English teaching method of accounting.The study involved the following three research questions:(1)What attitude do the students of accounting major to the application of role-play method in accounting English teaching?(2)What is the advantage of using role-play method in accounting English teaching?(3)What are the limitations of using role-play method in accounting English teaching?Subjects for this study were 115 students of accounting major studying in the Institute of Technology,East China Jiaotong University.Three research instruments were adopted in this research,including the experiment,the questionnaire and the interview.All the 115 students first participated in the experiment and questionnaire survey of the accounting English class,and then 20 of them were interviewed about their attitude towards the accounting English class.It was found that the students of accounting major take a positive attitude to the application of role-play in accounting English class.Compared with the traditional teaching method,the role-play has many advantages.The application of this method can obviously mobilize the enthusiasm of students,improve their learning enthusiasm,enhance their communication skills,cultivate their creative thinking and comprehensive ability.Students participated in the experimental class generally believe that this teaching method is very suitable for learning accounting English.At the same time,the role-play teaching method has its limitations.Some students raised concerns that they feel difficult to adapt to the class.The role-play teaching method in the accounting English increased students’ academic pressure and homework.Moreover,it requires a very detailed script,careful planning,the need for strong control of the scene and so on.Thus,the teacher of this lesson has to know more about knowledge both on English and accounting,and they must know the role-play teaching method very well.In order to make the role-play teaching method in the accounting professional English class more effectively used,this paper yields some implications:helping the teachers to learn more about role-play teaching theory and practice knowledge,enhancing their professional ability;changing the teaching time of the course;making the reasonable formulation of the class;classifying the students according to the English level;the reasonable choice or preparation of the teaching materials;the reform of the examination mode and so on. |
