Speech,as a production of spoken language of human beings,is meant to convey a certain idea or a series of ideas with supporting details. The political speech made by Donald.J.Trump,in this case, has a strong argument and purpose. The intended audience for the interpretation of Donald Trump's speech is American voters whose first language is Chinese and other Chinese speakers across the world. The interpretation of this speech requires high proficiency in both the source language,English, and the target language,Chinese. On top of that, the interpreter also has to be able to address various challenges posed by the fact that the speech involves a certain depth of general knowledge on American politics and politics regarding the 2016 general election in particular. To interpret the speech effectively, the interpreter must be well-practiced in notetaking,short-term memory and consecutive interpreting.Aside from the high requirement of language proficiency, the interpreter must be capable of remaining calm and confident throughout the process to utter the interpretation in a stable and clear voice. The report demonstrates the interpreting process of this project in Chapter 2.In spite of both long-term and short-term preparation, the interpreter encountered many challenges such as the interpreter's bias against the speaker and the difficulties in conveying the political purpose of the speaker in his interpretation. The interpreter took a second attempt to interpret this speech after reflecting on the recording of his first one.Through comparison between the first and second attempt, this report summarizes the strategies the interpreter used in his second attempt.Strategies such as choosing the more appropriate words, amplification and restructuring the sentences are taken in the interpreter's second attempt to better convey the political purposes of the speech. As it is elaborated in the final chapter of this report,to be an interpreter is a challenging job and all interpreters are only given only one chance in real-time interpretation tasks. However,to listen to and reflect on one's recording of previous interpretation and make a second attempt is necessary. This could help the interpreter to be better prepared when encountering similar challenges in the future. In the last chapter of the report,The paper concludes by drawing the readers' attention on the achievement of completing this task and things he has learned from this task for future reference.
