| This is a reflective report based on E-C simultaneous interpretation of a lecture titled “Translator and Interpreter Ethic” given in Jilin University by Professor David Johnston from Queen’s University Belfast. The author works as an interpreter of the lecture and recorded and transcribed the lecture.By analyzing the source text and the SI process, the author sums up some difficulties and problems in the interpretation and proposes corresponding solutions.Through the analysis of the source text, the linguistic features of the source text are as follows: firstly, diverse rhetorical devices are used in the lecture;Secondly, complex sentences are frequently used.Third, some colloquial expressions are used, and the feature of redundancy is obvious. The features of source text above have caused some trouble to the author in the interpretation, which led to such problems as information loss, mistranslation, disfluency, improper pauses, and unnecessary repetition. To address the problems above in the SI,corresponding countermeasures should be given after reflection as follows: first,self-modification and addition can be used to minimize the bad influence of misinterpretation;Second,we can adjust the word order and reconstruct the sentences;Lastly,we can use such skills as simplification and omission to deal with redundancy in the source text.It is hoped that this report will provide some references for other interpreters in interpreting similar materials and studying interpreting strategies. |
