This paper is a report on English-Chinese translation,covering text analysis and translation.The translation task,A Guide to Naturalization,is chosen from official website of U.S.Citizenship and Immigration Services(USCIS)and and chapter three to chapter eight are selected as the study objects.According to this translation report,the translator realizes that translation is not only a blending of words,phrases and sentences,but also imitation and creation of the source text.The translator needs to consider the various factors such as the background,language features,reading objects and cultural differences.The source text involves in American laws,political policies and relative culture,increasing the difficulty of translation.To help readers better understand the cultural differences between China and America,the translator applies Skopos theory and its three rules in solving problems which encounter in the translation.To a certain degree,the translator hopes that target readers can achieve the similar reading experience as source text readers and the translation can assist readers to be naturalized smoothly.The report is separated into five parts.The first chapter focuses on brief introduction of USCIS and source text.The second chapter is process description,including three phases:preparation,during the translation and after the translation.The third chapter is theoretical basis,including a detailed description of guiding theory and its direction to this translation project.As the main translation theory in the report,it combines with Vermeer’s skopos three principles:skopos,coherence and fidelity.While the fourth part is case analysis.Under the guidance of Skopos theory and its three rules,words,phrases and sentences of the source text are studied,including translation strategies and translation methods used in the translation.The last part is with certain reflections on the whole translation process.
