The source text of the translation report is Annual Report of the American Presbyterian Mission Hainan,1935,which is recommended by the author's supervisor and published by the Hong Kong Daily Press in 1935.The source text covers chief officials of Hainan Mission,resolutions made by the annual meeting,finance lists and other miscellaneous actions,The translation report includes five chapters.In the first chapter,the author introduces background information and significance of the source text.Chapter two contains Peter Newmark's Text Type Theory and Eugene A.Nida's Functional Equivalence Theory and respective cases studies.Chapter three covers translation strategies and translation skills such as literal translation,liberal translation,division and omission.Chapter four consists of several problems such as how to translate terminologies,people's names and geographic names,as well as solutions to the above problems.In chapter five the author summarizes reflections,inadequacies and suggestions after the completion of the translation project.Hainan is now implementing the International Tourism Island Construction project,and its profound history and culture have drawn attention from more and more scholars and public figures.Therefore,the translation report is of both historical and practical significance,especially for those who are dedicated to the research of the history of Christianity in Hainan Island.In this paper,the author has analyzed the composition of the translation report at full length,so as to guide the whole writing process.
