Traditional villages are the witnesses of China's long history. As a crystallization of farming civilization,it contains profound historical and cultural connotations and is an important carrier for inheriting national identity, genes and national spirit. However, with the rapid urbanization in China, the traditional village is facing the danger of declining. In order to protect this valuable cultural heritage, this paper selects Zhejiang Province, which has rich traditional village resources,as a research area.Selecting the traditional villages(a total of 1 035)in the list of traditional villages above the provincial level in Zhejiang Province as research subjects, and using Google Earth,ArcGIS 10.2 technology platforms, combined with mathematical statistics methods, based on field surveys,to analyzing the macro spatial distribution rules and structural characteristics of the existing traditional villages in Zhejiang Province. At the same time, through exploring the differences between the types of traditional villages in Zhejiang Province and their internal spatial structure,we hope to provide reference for the systematic protection of traditional villages in Zhejiang Province. The results of this paper are as follows.(1)According to the differences in functional and terrain features of traditional villages in Zhejiang Province,it is divided into three main types:cultivation type, trade and industry type and defensive type. The cultivation type includes low fluctuation farming type, medium fluctuating farming type and high fluctuating farming type. The trade and industry type includes trade and transportation type, production output type and business Confucianism combination type, and defensive type includes military defense type and life defense type.(2)From the geographical point of view, the macro-spatial distribution of traditional villages in Zhejiang Province is agglomeration, and the regional distribution is uneven. There is an obvious central area for agglomeration. The most significant area is Lishui City, southwestern Zhejiang Province.(3)From the type distribution point of view, the number of cultivated villages in the traditional villages of Zhejiang Province is the largest, and the farmland with low fluctuation is mainly affected by the topography and altitude.(4)The topographical conditions have a certain influence on the distribution of traditional villages in Zhejiang Province. Most of the traditional villages are distributed in plains and hilly areas where the average altitude is below 500 m and are relatively gentle on the topography. They are distributed along the water system, and the village slope is less than 15°.The aspect is slightly more on the north slope(shade slope).(5)Most of the traditional villages in Zhejiang Province have low economic levels in all districts of the province. The relatively backward and weak economic foundations are also the difficulties in the follow-up protection work.(6)Based on the above three types of traditional villages, the internal structure of the traditional villages in Zhejiang Province was sorted out and summarized from the three aspects of site selection characteristics, morphological characteristics and spatial structure, and combining with the case for empirical analysis.
