Animation is one of the most popular cultural carriers today. It focuses more on visual experience and entertainment and has a strong attraction for young audiences. When the well-known historical figures are represented through the medium of animation, they are often given a brand-new image. These “remodeling” images continue to stimulate the interest of the younger generation of audience groups in rereading history and facilitate the dissemination and transmission of excellent culture.Contemporary Japanese animation traces the history and culture of countries and shapes an impressive number of roles adapted from historical figures.Combing and studying the strategies and methods of Japanese animation's adaptation of its historical figures will provide effective reference and guidance for Chinese animation creators. This topic takes the adaptation of historical figures in Japanese animation as research content, and combines historical data to analyze concretely how Japanese animation reshapes and presents historical figures in their own country. This article is divided into four parts:The first chapter expounds how Japanese animation chooses the historical prototype for adaptation from two aspects: the dimension of time and space and the range of subject matter. The second chapter specifically analyzes how archetype historical figures in different historical works extend the existing roles in the animation. The third chapter analyzes the source of popularization, spectacle and entertainment in the adaptation of historical figures-the cultural space of Japanese animation. The fourth chapter studies the outstanding advantages and existing problems of Japanese animation in the adaptation of historical figures, and puts forward ideas for the creation of such theme.
