Research On Liao Yimei’s View On Women

Liao Yimei expressed her unique and profound view of women through the play"Pessimism Trilogy" and the novel "Flowers of Pessimistic Subjects".Many of her literary works on women present the current status of women living in Chinese society.The spiritual issues have shown a new outlook for the development of Chinese literature on women in the new century and presented a new view of women.However,domestic research on Liao Yimei still rests on the level of her avant-garde creative techniques.There are few systematic or profound analyses of her views on women.Liao Yimei’s connotation of feminism includes not only critiques of male dominance and female alienation,but also building well images of women that are independent of money,personality and emotion.It also shows the alienation of female groups under gender confrontation.Compared with other female writers,view on women,Liao Yimei’s view on women not only has a strong pessimistic tone,but also shows women’s independent view on sexual consciousness.It also shows deconstruction of male power and gender pressure of women.Liao Yimei’s view of women has a strong sense of pessimism.It results from Liao Yimei’s profound understanding of most women including herself who live in urban areas.It is both Liao Yimei’s feelings that most women’s self-consciousness has not yet woken up.The difficulties in understanding of changing women’s plight,the critique of men’s rights and of gender conflicts show Liao Yimei’s efforts to change the plight of women.Idea of new image of women is a bold way for Liao Yimei to solve women’s difficulties on survival.Liao Yimei’s view on women not only makes a certain contribution to the development of women’s literature,but also has a great significance to help women get out of dilemma on survival.However,Liao Yimei’s view of women has a lot of shortcomings for four factors,such as the special social background,the limits of the time,Liao Yimei’s special growing environment and life experiences.The shortcomings of Liao Yimei’s view of women includes women’s unclear recognization of self-values,aphasia of women and so on.Though Liao Yimei’s view on women benefits from her own growth experiences and personality,but also it trends to female-centrism or elitism.Through analizing shortcomings and causes of shortcomings of Liao Yimei’s view on women,the author makes great effrorts to have a whole understanding of difficuties on current lifestyles and living conditions that women are confronted with,and to enable women to have economic levels to live by themselves and to have rights to talk freely.
