Alison M.Jaggar(1943-)is one of the most famous socialist feminist philosophers in contemporary America. In 1983,Jagger’s representative work Feminist Politics and the Nature of Humanity came out.In this book, she expands on Marx’s theory of alienation, arguing that women who are not directly involved in capitalist production relations are also experiencing alienation, thus forming the theory of female alienation. This theory analyzes the situation of female alienation in capitalist society in detail and the origin of alienation, and then explores the ways to eliminate alienation. The study of Jagger’s theory of female alienation clearly reveal the shortcomings of capitalist society, which is conducive to the development of Marxist theory of women, and also has an enlightening effect on the continuous advancement of women’s career development in China. The proposal of Jagger’s theory of female alienation has its specific era background and ideological origin.A large number of American men went to the battlefield during World War II,resulting in a vacuum in the domestic labor market, and women who stayed in the country had more opportunities to participate in public production as a reserve labor force. However, this has not brought about a change in the perception of women’s roles in traditional concepts.Instead, women have suffered oppression from society and family.Influenced by the social movement for liberal democracy that began in the late 1950 s,the second feminist movement emerged in the1960 s.In this movement, feminists are concerned about women’s own rights such as sexual freedom and reproductive freedom.Based on this background,Jagger put forward the theory of female alienation. This theory draws on Marx’s theory of alienation, two production theories and other multi-school feminist ideas.Jagger’s theory of female alienation extends the application scope of the traditional Marxist concept of alienation from the public domain to the private domain, and believes that women’s lives in capitalist society can be seen as a perfect interpretation of alienation.Jagger explores the alienation of women in sexual experience, motherhood, and spiritual intelligence based on the real life of women, and then points out that the gender division of labor under the capitalist mode of production and the shackles of patriarchal ideology result in the overall alienation of women in their lives.Jagger believes that the complete emancipation of women requires not only changing the organizational model of social production, but also eliminating women’s weak traits. She proposes the idea of social transformation to eliminate alienation from raising the awareness of women’s groups, establishing independent women’s organizations, ensuring women’s rights and interests in employment relationships, and realizing women’s freedom of reproduction.Jagger’s theory of female alienation has both advantages and disadvantages. On the one hand,it deepens the critique of contemporary capitalism, expands Marx’s theory of alienation, and forms a new framework for analyzing female alienation. On the other hand,it deviates from the viewpoint of historical materialism, focuses on the negative experiences in women’s lives, ignores the role of men in dispelling alienation.Jagger’s comprehensive analysis of women’s alienation in capitalist society has implications for China’s continuous advancement of women’s career development. With the founding of New China,Chinese women have ended their oppression. However, women still experience some unequal treatment in society. Here are the advices: harmonious and inclusive social culture should be built to promote equality between men and women.All-China Women’s Federation should strengthen the service level and ability.Promote the synchronous development of women and social economy.
