| At present,whether at home or abroad,there are few experimental studies on basic English sentence patterns in respect with teaching English in the junior high school.This study aims to explore a new way for students to master basic English sentence patterns while reading and use them correctly in subsequent translation and writing.Usage-based approach of language acquisitions hold that learners learn a language while using it,and an individual’s linguistic competence emerges from the memories of the utterances in their history of language use and the abstraction of regularities within them.And the usage-based sentence pattern teaching follows its ideology.This thesis is based on the use-based approach of cognitive linguistics,two classes were selected from six classes in grade two of Guangzhou No.2 Foreign Language school,the two classes’ students were taken as the subjects of the experiment,and the two classes had comparable English grades.A total of 83 students in the two classes.Two classes were divided into an experimental class(EC)and a control class(CC).Sentence patterns were taught to the experimental class by the way of usage-based sentence pattern teaching method,while the same were taught to the control group students by the way of traditional grammar teaching model(the Presentation,Practice and Production teaching model).The reason why the author selected the two classes as subjects is that cognitive grammar emphasizes the importance of abundant authentic language input and input frequency,and a large quantity of language input require learners to possess certain quantities of language reserve.The experiment lasted for thirteen weeks,and the two groups of students were taught for 24 classroom periods.One week after the end of the experiment,a post-test was conducted.The author employs SPSS 22.0 for the quantitative analysis and qualitative analysis in this study.The experiment shows that: 1)In terms of the frequency and accuracy of basicsentence patterns,the students in the experimental class performed significantly better than the control class.2)The interest and confidence of learning sentence patterns,the performance of the experimental class is obviously better than the control class too.This result shows that the usage-based sentence pattern teaching is more effective and efficient. |
