As the topic of ecology protection gains increasing attention nowadays, research on different fields from the perspective of ecology broadens progressively in academic circle. The Eco-translatology thus emerges. The theory borrows principle of“Natural selection and Survival of the fittest” from ecological system, aiming to present new elucidation on translation process from perspective of “Adaption” and“Selection”,which assists in supplementing research of translation. With the guideline of Eco-translatology theory, the thesis selects Cheng Hong's translation of American Nature Writing as research objective. The translation would be analyzed from perspective of Eco-translatology.The thesis explores what adaption and selection the translator makes in translational Eco-environment and what adaptive selection the translator makes in multidimensional transformation.First of all, analysis would be composed from translator's adaption and selection in internal and external translational Eco-environment.In this respect, comparison of identity background, ecological ideology, life experience and social ecological environment of translator and authors would be drawn. The similarity in mental ecology environment, identity background, social background and life experience enables the translator to grasp essence of original text more accurately, which indicates translator's high degree of adaptability to translational Eco-environment.In addition, the thesis expounds what adaptive selection the translator makes in linguistic, aesthetic, communicative and cultural dimension and it attempts to disclose ecological connotation of the translation.According to Eco-translatology,the linguistic, communicative and cultural dimension intertwines with each other and each of them possesses their own emphasis.Adaptive selection in linguistic dimension is discussed from lexical level and syntactic level. On lexical level,in order to meet the needs of expression of text's connotation, the translator adjusts meaning of vocabularies through adopting various translation strategies. On syntactic level, the translator tends to select parataxis to construct the sentence so as to adapt to the distinction of language usage. The compact and succinct language enables readers to gain more ecological inspiration. The initiative status of the plant and animal is demonstrated through conversion between passive mode and active mode.Adaptive selection in aesthetic dimension is explored from structural level, auditory level and semantic level. On structural level,to rehabilitate beauty of structure in original text, the translator inclines to select symmetric structure which reveals harmonious and balanced state of nature as well as aesthetics of grandeur and dynamics of it.On auditory level, the musical effect of original text is reproduced through applying large numbers of reduplicated words and mimetic words as well as alliteration and assonance.Colorful soundscape of the great nature is presented in it.Furthermore, the sound effect produced by translation evokes mental image of nature. On semantic level, the beauty of ideorealm in original text is inherited through adopting poetic language and the tenderness and tranquility of nature is thus depicted.Adaptive selection in communicative dimension is expounded from selection of pictures and forewords as well as application of metaphor.Addition of picture and forewords offer medium for reader's comprehension of the text while application of metaphor assists in transmission of author's intention and target reader's further understanding. It thus maintains balance of communicative ecology of text.Adaptive selection in cultural dimension is composed from selection of footnote and culture-loaded words.Selection of footnote facilitates transmission of foreign culture while culture-loaded word manifests Chinese culture, which is beneficial for coexistence of multi-culture.Eventually,evaluation on Cheng's translation is analyzed from translator's quality, reader's feedback and the degree of multidimensional transformation. In conclusion, the study indicates that Eco-translatology maintains persuasive explanatory power on Cheng's translation of American Nature Writing and provides new perspective for study of it.The reason that Cheng's translation gains recognition from target reader and long term survival is translator's multidimensional adaption and optimal selection in translational Eco-environment.It provides reference for translation of Nature Writing for its ecological nature and aesthetic value.
