Research On The Localization Of Islam In Indonesia

Any foreign culture entering a new cultural system must undergo a process of interaction and transformation with the original culture,that is "localization".Localization is a process of converting something to meet the specific requirements of the local community.It is a process of mutual exchange,absorption,and integration between different things,and at the same time there are mutual resistances,exclusion,and conflicts in the process.It is a change of something to adapt to the current situation.The spreading history of Islam in Indonesia is also the history of its localization.Islam has begun the process of localization in order to adapt to the local factors of Indonesia,since it came into Indonesia in the second half of seventh century.However,the expression and characteristics of the Islamic localization is markedly different in different stages,and Indonesia's Islam has more Indonesian style in the aspect of external form and ideological content.In summary,the localization formed a tolerant and moderate Islam in Indonesia.At present,Indonesia is the country with the largest Muslim population in the world.Moderate Muslims make up the majority of the population.The success of Islamic localization in Indonesia is mainly influenced by many factors,such as Islamic Sufi mysticism and Shafi'i school,special missionary environment,and the social characteristics of diverse ethnic groups and various religions in Indonesia.In general,the localization of Islam has had many positive impacts on Indonesia.On the economic side,it has promoted the development of Indonesian commodity economy.The influence of the halal industry,especially the halal tourism,on the modern economy is becoming increasingly significant.On the political front,Islam has played an active role in struggle for national independence and has been conducive to the democratization process of Indonesia.In terms of social and cultural aspects,Islam has added Islamism to Indonesian social conventions.Traditional Islamic education combines with modern education.Religious education has gradually become an important part of the current national education system in Indonesia.In the aspects of counter-terrorism activities,in recent years,Indonesian national security has been threatened by the increase in Indonesia's terrorist activities,but the moderate Indonesian Islam has made the situation of Indonesia's terrorist activities far less severe than those in the Middle East.This paper focuses on the localization of Islam in Indonesia.It firstly retrospects the past and present situation of the spread of Islam in Indonesia,secondly explains the expression and characteristics of Islam in Indonesia,thirdly analyzes the influencing factors of the localization of Islam in Indonesia,and finally attempts to explore the profound influence of the localization of Islam in Indonesia.
