Translation Studies On Happy Dreams From The Perspective Of Literary Stylistics

This thesis is focused on Gaoxing written by Jia Pingwa and Happy Dreams translated by Nicky Harman,making a research on the artistic features of Gaoxing and on whether these features have been reproduced in Happy Dreams.First,guided by the novelistic creation thoughts of Jia Pingwa,this thesis makes an analysis of the theme,artistic features such as the use of imagery,the bold language experiment,understatements,special narrative perspective and their corresponding artistic effects of Gaoxing.And then with the adoption of the study methods of literary stylistics,some representative examples with typical artistic features at the level of linguistic form and at the level of fictional reality respectively are analyzed,and the corresponding translation will also be observed to see how the translator deal with them.With the enlightenment from Literary Stylistics and Fictional Translation,it is found that,in Gaoxing,at the level of linguistic form,Jia Pingwa conducts his bold language experiment,using a large number of dialects,proverbs,puns and creative expressions,which not only makes the writing style more national,but also serves to create a lighthearted atmosphere and ease the seriousness of the story told.And secondly,at the level of syntax,Jia Pingwa uses some syntax techniques,such as the repeated syntax structure to enhance the coherence and the "prominence" to highlight the details implicitly and further reinforce the theme.Last,at the level of fictional reality,the thesis makes an analysis of "illogical elements","the understaing tone"and the use of imagery in Gaoxing,and their corresponding translation.After the comparative analysis of Gaoxing and Happy Dreams from the perspective of literary stylistics,it could be concluded that generally both the words in fiction and fictional facts are closely related to the theme,the characterization and the style to some extent,which deserve the attention of the translator and the scholar.
