The ever-deepening external exchanges in China lead to the widespread use of Simultaneous Interpreting(SI),especially in some high-end conferences. And to make sure the success of interpretation, many interpreters have opportunity to get access to the manuscript in advance. However, there is still interpretation failure both in SI with and without text to some extent.According to Gile's Effort Models, there are both similarities and differences in the effort allocation between SI with and without text.Once the interpreter's efforts are saturated, problems occur. The main Problem Triggers are figures, idioms and high density of information. Therefore, under the guidance of Effort Models, this report comparatively analyzes the information delivery of Problem Triggers in SI with and without text like figures, idioms, new information, coordinate structure and long sentences. And corresponding strategies have also been put forward for interpreters to better allocate efforts and cope with these common Problem Triggers in SI.Two mock interpretations for President Xi's speech on the BRICKS Business Forum are carried out, that is,SI with text and without text respectively. To avoid interference,SI without text is done first and then SI with text about one month later with manuscript two hours before interpretation. Each is done and recorded on the spot by simultaneously interpreting the original video of the speaker, which lasts about 50 minutes.Besides, professional teachers and students majoring in English interpreting are invited on the spot to evaluate the interpretation quality. After that, the author comparatively analyses the two practices in time.By comparatively analyzing the two interpretations,it can be concluded that:first,as for figures, idioms and coordinate structure, the listening and analysis effort as well as the memory effort are lessened a lot in SI with text. Therefore, the information is more accurate and complete than SI without text in general.Second, for long sentences and new information,SI with text is not better than SI without text.As the author has failed to allocate efforts well in SI with text, most new information and key information in long sentences have been missed.Nevertheless,in SI without text, mainly relying on listening, the author has covered all new information and missed more detailed information in long sentences. Therefore, corresponding strategies can be applied to better allocate efforts well and reduce interpretation failure arising from these Problem Triggers. For figures, interpreters can get frained and prepare relevant information. And on the spot, strategies like approximation, priority to figures and anticipation can be applied;for idioms, strategies of domestication and foreignization can be chosen under the circumstances;for new information, interpreters can lengthen the EVS(Ear-Voice Span),take notes, use the strategies of generalization and omission and even forget the manuscript temporarily;for coordinate structure, strategies like anticipation and anticipation, omission and generalization can be carried out;for long sentences, strategies of syntactic linearity, anticipation, omission and addition can be applied. The report is divided into five parts:Chapter One describes the background information, details, features and objectives of the task.Chapter Two describes the whole process of the two mock interpretation practices from three phases.Chapter Three provides a framework for the report by introducing three basic Effort Models,Effort Models in SI with and without text as well as Problem Triggers.Chapter Four comparatively analyzes the information delivery of Problem Triggers such as figures, idioms, new information, coordinate structure and long sentences between SI with text and without text. And corresponding strategies have been put forward.Chapter Five summarizes the findings, strategies of the practice interpretation and implications for SI training and practitioners. And limitations of the report and suggestions for further studies are also clarified.
