That students from grade two in junior school take part in to investigate the mechanism of constructing and updating situation models in text-reading during different speed. Experiment 1 discusses the mechanism under normal reading while experiment 2 under fast reading. The explicit goal information appears in the front of the text in experiment 1a and 2a, however, it does not appear in experiment 1b and 2b. The results indicate that in experiment 1a, the mechanism of constructing and updating situation models in text reading is investigated to support the memory-based text processing view, however, in experiment 1b, the results support the here-and-now hypothesis. In experiment 2a and experiment 2b, as in fast reading, whether the text has explicit goal information or not, the mechanism of constructing and updating situation models is investigated to support the memory-based text processing view.
