The Mogao Grottoes in Dunhuang were originated from the Northern Dynasty to the Yuan Dynasty.For thousands of years,continuous exploration of caves and statues has made today’s world-famous Dunhuang Grottoes arts.Many images in Mogao Grottoes are mainly divided into heaven musics and folk musics.Based on the study and excavation of the Dharmapala in the dance in the Dunhuang Mogao Grottoes,we first made a preliminary understanding of the functions and origin of the Dharmapala in Buddhism.Further,the purpose of this paper is to differentiate the different types of Dharmapalas,to their differences and connections,and to the use of ritual instruments and props.To better explore the functions of Dharmapala in the dance,we not only studied the aesthetic characteristics of "no difference between music and dance" and "combination of dynamics and statics" from the perspective of symmetrical aesthetics and intuitive vision,also from the plastic arts,inner temperament with the aesthetic characteristics of Dharmapala in the Mogao Grottoes to summed up the beauty of the curve and the characteristics of masculinity.On the basis of fully understanding the function,origin and aesthetic characteristics of the Dharmapalas,this paper also studied the applications of the Dharmapalas in Dunhuang-Men’s-Dance from the perspective of hand shapes,body types and ritual apparatus of the Dharmapalas,and Consequently,it aroused we thinking on the future development of Dunhuang-Men’s-Dance.Firstly,as a new genre,it is great crucial that Dunhuang-Dance develops synchronously between men and women.Secondly,the research objects of Dunhuang-Men’s-Dance in Mogao Grottoes are mainly the images of music and dance in the early stage and the Dharmapala spirits which is throughout the beginning and end of Gogao Grottoes.And lastly,the purpose both of Dunhuang-Dance and Dharmapala research is to promote Chinese culture.Importantly,exploration and excavation should be improved continuously and indisputably,there is still a long way to go.
