Pro-social behavior refers to the acts of humility, cooperation, help, sharing, and even self-sacrifice made by people in social interactions that contribute to social harmony and behavior.Since American scholar Weisberg first proposed the concept of prosocial behavior, scholars have conducted many explorations on the structure, definition, production conditions, and measurement methods of prosocial behavior, which enriched our understanding of prosocial behavior.Previous studies have shown that empathy is closely related to pro-social behavior and that empathy can effectively promote pro-social behavior. And the relation between self-esteem and pro-social behavior is also very close, but the relationship between research appeared opposite conclusions, some studies have got high self-esteem can promote the generation of pro-social behavior, while some studies have got low self-esteem can promote the generation of pro-social behavior. In addition, the previous studies did not explore the pro-social behaviors in the way of self-respect,so there is still room for exploration.Based on the above conditions, this study uses junior middle school students as a group and uses questionnaires to analyze the characteristics of descriptive statistics,one-way analysis of variance, independent sample t-test,correlation analysis, and regression analysis to explore the relationship among self-esteem,empathy and pro-social behavior of junior middle school students.Analyze the mediating role of empathy in junior high school students’ self-esteem and pro-social behavior. The results obtained are as follows:(1)Junior high school students’ self-esteem is in the upper middle level. There is a significant difference in gender and whether there are only children. The self-esteem of girls is significantly higher than that of boys. The self-esteem of only children is significantly higher than that of non-only children.Self-esteem does not differ in age.(2)The junior high school student’s empathy is in the upper middle level.Junior high school students had significant gender differences in their empathy, and girls’ empathy was significantly higher than that of boys. There is no difference in empathy between age and only child.(3)The prosocial behavior of junior high school students is in the upper middle level. There are significant differences in the pro-social behaviors of junior high school students at the grade level. With the increase of grades, the level of prosocial behavior continues to decrease. There are no significant differences in gender and whether there are only one child(4)There is a significant positive correlation between the level of self-esteem and the empathy of junior high school students, and there is a significant positive correlation with the prosocial behavior.(5)There is a significant positive correlation between the level of empathy and pro-social behavior of junior high school students.(6)The empathy of junior high school students plays a part in mediating between self-esteem and prosocial behavior.Based on the above results,we can conclude that there is a relationship between self-esteem,empathy,and pro-social behavior in junior high school students, and that empathy plays a partial intermediary role between self-esteem and prosocial behavior. Therefore, actively interfering with the self-esteem and empathy of junior high school students to enhance their self-esteem and empathy is of great significance for improving the prosocial behavior of middle school students.
