The core issue to be studied in The ethics of believe is: "what should we believe and what we have the right to believe? Or how can we know what we believe is certain?Just as The ethics explores the evaluation of ethical behavior,The ethics of belief tries to determine the rules for evaluating the status of beliefs.Through the relationship between belief and evidence,Clifford put forward that it is wrong always,everywhere,and for anyone to believe anything upon insufficient evidence.It is called Clifford's EvidentialismFirst,This paper introduces the introduction and background of Clifford's The ethics of belief,in order to obtain a basic understanding of the main purpose of this article.At that time,the society is experiencing the Victorian Crisis of Faith,science point of view and the traditional religious belief is more and more contradictions,religious doctrine is not satisfied with people's spiritual needs,Suspicion and uncertainty are all over the whole mind of people.Clifford is worried that this will affect the public morality of society,expressed the hope that the establishment of a complete The ethics of belief system.Secondly,Through the elaboration of the basic ideas of "The ethics of belief",the core argument of Clifford's Evidentialism is carried out.It focuses on the relationship between belief and behavior,quality,ability,habit,society and the destiny of mankind,to demonstrate his EvidentialismFinally,This article will analyze the views of the academic circles on Clifford Evidentialism,From these defending and criticizing,I will introduce James,Feldman,Peirce and Lewis' s response to Clifford.On this basis,the reasons for the controversy caused by Clifford's evidence doctrine are summed up and a reasonable explanation is given.It is the key to this article to distinguish Clifford's two ideas from epistemological and ethical thoughts,and to defend the legitimacy of Clifford's principles in the theory of knowledge.
