Research On The Social And Economic Relationship Of Zhangzhou And Xiamen From The 19th Century

This study continued to expore the economic development of the basin of Jiulongjiang River during the Ming and Qing dynasties.Focusing on the two areas,Zhangzhou the hinterland of the Jiulongjiang River and the island of Xiamen at the estuary,whose developments from the late Qing dynasty to the Republic of China.Personnel exchanged and materials flowed between the Xiamen and Zhangzhou,can show the diachronic relationship interactive between this two areas.Rethinking the development model of the economy in the basin of Jiulongjiang River.The development of the economic and trade,as well as the relationship changes between the Zhangzhou and Xiamen,have coincided with changes in the economic development cycle in the southeast coastal areas.From the Yue Port era to the rise of Xiamen,the regional superiority has been transfered.Since the Ming dynasty,Xiamen has existed for a long time as a military fortress,economically acting as the outer port of the Haicheng Yue Port,sparsely populated,and lacking supplies.During the battle between Qing dynasty and Zheng family,the strategic position of Xiamen was gradually revealed,and became the center of the southeast coastal trade network.The economic center of the basin of Jiulongjiang River also gradually shifted to Xiamen,an outlying island.The Jiulongjiang River waterway,as the convenient transportation in the traditional era,greatly facilitated the transportation of materials and personnel within the basin and promoted the urban-rural interaction between Zhangzhou and Xiamen.After the 19th century,Zhangzhou land area has become an important hinterland of the Xiamen port.On the one hand,Zhangzhou provides basic living materials such as rice,water and fuel for Xiamen's development,as well as exportable land products such as sugar,tea,and daffodils.On the other hand,Zhangzhou has become a major consumer of imported goods from Xiamen port,such as flour.Both parties need each other and developed their advantages,which had become another form of economy development of the basin of Jiulongjiang River under the new situation,facing the overseas world toether.
