Through the investigation of polite language in Chinese textbooks, this paper observes the characteristics of the four textbooks in early 20 th Century. It also examines the language at the time from the Chinese textbooks in different countries. This paper mainly discusses from the point of view of the language and the situation. At the same time of recognizing the four teaching materials,it summarizes the features of polite language and its teaching inspiration. The first chapter describes and presents the polite language in the textbook from the perspective of language point.Combining the appearance of polite language points in the four textbooks,we summarized and combed the linguistic points of the polite language in this study, including respectful words, polite idioms, and mood adverbs and end-mood words, and then combined these language points in four textbooks. The analysis of the features in language arrangement gives some insights into our understanding of the four textbooks. The second chapter discusses the teaching materials from the perspective of conversational politeness. In the first part,we listed the common conversational situations in the four textbooks, including greetings, farewells, commercial sales, compliments, and interviews. The second part analyzes the compilation of four textbooks from the perspective of scenarios. There are two situations: First, even if the same polite language can appear in different scenarios;Second, different teaching materials, there will be differences in the choice of scenarios for the same language point. The paper also analyzes this phenomenon.Because on the one hand, polite language is a system based on language ontology, and on the other hand it embodies everyone's own language system of politeness. It has something to do with the editing purpose and other background. The last chapter is a summary of this study, including the understanding of the use of polite language during the early 20 th century and the understanding of these four Chinese textbooks. In the last section,we summed up the inspiration for the polite language and its teaching in Chinese as a foreign language, and proposed that the politelanguage can be divided into the categories of typical polite language and subtypical polite language. The combination of language points and situations helps students to establish their own view of the polite language system. And it is considered in the paper that an important aspect of polite language teaching is the development of politeness awareness.
