This study is based on the information source theory formed by Albert Bandura(1977),a famous psychologist in the United States.The purpose of this study is to explore the significance of the cooperative learning in promoting the English learning self-efficacy of middle school students.In this study,using the methods of literature analysis,experiment,questionnaire and interview,one experimental class and one control class were randomly selected in the eighth grade of Yong Sheng School in Wen Jiang District of Chengdu to have the investigation to know the current situation of Grade 8 Students' Self-efficacy in English Learning.Meanwhile,the teaching experiments were carried out in the experimental class for a semester and then compared with the control class.The research shows that:(1)In this study,using Students Teams Achievement Divisions(STAD)cooperative learning method can improve students' English learning self-efficacy.After applying cooperative learning teaching methods,the experimental students' English learning self-efficacy increased significantly,and there was a significant difference between students in experimental group and control group.(2)Cooperative learning can promote the self-efficacy of English learning in direct experience,alternative experience,verbal persuasion,physical and emotional state.(3)Students hold a positive attitude towards cooperative learning and are willing to adopt a cooperative learning model to learn English in the future.
