| Objective:To investigate the current status of elementary school students’ social and emotional health,and to develop a group counseling intervention program which is in line with the characteristics of social and emotional health development of pupils based on group psychological counseling theory and stage change model theory,and then further to conduct an intervention research to explore the effect of the improvement of social and emotional health group intervention on bullying and the sense of belonging to the campus.METHODS:Firstly,the Social and Emotional Health Scale(SEHS)was used to survey 1,542 students from grade three to grade six in five schools in Hunan province to investigate the social and emotional health status of the pupils.Subsequently,in the third and fifth grade a certain primary school in Changsha City,Hunan Province,two classes were selected as the experimental class and the control class between which the teacher resources,the composition of students and the total score and each dimension scores of social and emotional health of the students were almost the same.The experimental class received a group psychological counseling once a week for a total of eight times while the control class did not accept intervention.After the intervention,a questionnaire survey was conducted to test the effectiveness of the intervention.Five months later,a follow-up survey was conducted to investigate the continuity of the intervention effect.Results:(1)The total score of social and emotional health of primary school students is significantly different between different gender,as well as between each grade,and between only child and none-only child.As for gender,the scores of boys are lower than girls in total scores and dimension scores.(2)The social and emotional health of the participants of experimental class who receive group’s intervention has significantly improved,and still maintained at a high level in the follow-up measurement five months later.The social and emotional health group psychological counseling program designed in this study can effectively improve the comprehensive vitality of the pupils’ social and emotional health.(3)After the group intervention,the experimental class’bullying victim score was significantly reduced,and the sense of belonging to the campus was significantly improved while those of the control class remained unchanged.In addition,the bullying victim scores of the follow-up measurement of the experiment class were still significantly lower than the pretest five months later,and the sense of belonging to campus remained significant above the pretest while the control class remained unchanged.Conclusion:The group psychological counseling program designed in this study can improve the social and emotional health of primary school students,thereby improving the victimization of bullying and the sense of belonging to campus.The effect of group counseling has a continuous effect. |
