| During the Yong Jia period of Jin Dynasty,ethnic minorities in northern China invaded the central plains in the midst of royal civil strife so that the royal family and a large number of scholars migrated south,which was called “the Migration Southwards of Yongjia Years” in the history.However,a part of Han nationality scholars keeped in the North.Shortly afterwards,Sima’s members led south-migrated eupatrid elites to establish a new regime in the South,and soon settled in a comfortable environment.Meanwhile,the vast areas of the north were reduced to the battlefield of the Huns,Xian Bei,Jie,Di,Qiang,etc.The Han nationality scholars who kept in the north were living in such chaotic times as the last years of the Western Jin Dynasty and the Sixteen Kingdoms.Troubled times had a great influence on the survival activity and mentality of scholars.In order to survive and develop at that time,they made different choices for their lifes,which formed a variety of literary theme and made the literature creations present a different face.For example,as the patriotic general of the Western Jin dynasty,Liu Kun choosed to be loyal to the Jin chamber so that he bravely resisted the invasion of ethnic minorities.He writed a great number of literary works whose theme was national salvation.These works created solemn and generous atmosphere and had the strong patriotic emotion.Secondly,under specific historical conditions between the Sixteen Kingdoms,some scholars represented by Lu Chen succumbed to the mixed regime.The inner contradiction made their literature full of helpless and melancholy and reveal the bitter feelings.Moreover,for the interests and development of their family,a lot of the Han nationality scholars in the North actively involved in new regime and provided advice on governing the country.So they left some articles that were used to exhort the ruling class.In addition,there were some scholars who choosed to live in seclusion.And no literary works of them was reserved at the present day.In brief,the literary works of the Han nationality scholars in the particular historical situation has distinct characteristics of that times.Some of these worksdescribed the turbulent reality of the last years in the Western Jin Dynasty and the deep feelings of the scholars,which were rich in the content of thought and emotional implication.The other parts were based on the application texts that were more practical and more political and embodied the characteristics of the literature of the Sixteen Kingdoms. |
