Writing is a significant part in college English teaching.It is necessary to find an effective approach to writing instruction.Badger and White(2000)proposed the process genre approach,an integrated model,which is based on the product approach,the process approach and the genre approach and integrates the advantages of those three approaches.The process genre approach pays more attention to the purpose and situation of the writing.In order to testify the effectiveness of the process genre approach in writing instruction,a four-month experiment was carried out in college English writing class and the participants of the study were from Xing Lin College of Liaoning Traditional Chinese Medicine University.The study posed two research questions.1.What is the effect of the process genre approach on the subjects' English writing performance?2.What are the changes of subjects' perceptions of writing after applying the process genre approach?In the research,questionnaire,interview and tests were used to collect data,which was analyzed by SPSS 17.0 or thematically.The results show that the students' writing performance has improved obviously in EC,which means that the process genre approach is effective in writing class.It can also be inferred from the results that the students' perceptions of English writing have changed in EC.Students' attitude perceptions toward writing have changed to be positive and writing method perceptions have become more effective than before.
