Time narrative and space narrative are the two dimensions in which the plot of the novel can be unfolded. The creative combination of the two can make the work more profound in narrative aspects and themes. The study of literary theory has long focused on the study of the narrative of the novel's time, and has not paid enough attention to the space narrative. In China, the study of Ba Jin's novels also shows such characteristics. In Ba Jin's works, space narrative plays a pivotal role in the unfolding of the story, the shaping of the character's fate, and the presentation of the author's intention. Therefore,it is necessary to carry out an in-depth study of the space narrative of Ba Jin's novel. In view of the fact that the novels of "The Fourth Warrior" and "Cold Night" have similarities in their creation time, background, and creative themes, they are all about the "patient room" space narrative of Chongqing in the1940 s wartime. The analysis of the constitutional factors, spatial forms, spatial imagery, and spatial narrative techniques of the space narratives in the Ward and the Cold Night can give us a more comprehensive understanding of the space narrative style in Ba Jin ' s works: First, from the static space/wandering space The three relative spatial categories of the space of death, the space of new birth, and the space of the ground floor/upper stream can well present the spatial narrative elements and spatial forms of the two works;secondly, the space images of these two works can be extracted by roads.Space imagery,hall-style space imagery and traditional cultural space imagery;finally, the spatial narrative techniques of the two works are mainly embodied in the choice of narrative space and the color harmony of the narrative space.
