In this paper,the author makes a comparative study of thoughts of social governance between Xunzi and Aristotle form background,logical staring point,core concepts and main content,analyzes its historical influence and extracts the useful part to the contemporary society.Xunzi upholds the cautious attitude that human nature tends to be evil,he adopts “order” as the core concept of social governance and describes a ideal society about “ living together harmoniously in the order structure” by means such as prospering Li and respecting laws,education,respecting the sovereign and admiring the virtuous.Xunzi also believe the way of BA can be used with the way of WANG.Aristotle takes the theory of “man is by nature a political animal” and “ man is rational animal” as the breakthrough point of his thought of social governance,in which the “justice” is core concept.Aristotle constructs his thought by explore the relationship between human governance and the rule of law social,choosing regime and educating.Xunzi’s efforts to introduce law to Confucianism and objectivize Li that have added new factors to the development of later Confucianism.However,Xunzi’s pursuit of order caused him to neglect individual’s normal demands and also provides a theoretical source for later autocratic Emperor.Aristotle’s pursuit of justice and the rule of law emphasizes the rationality and equality of the individual,which enlightens the Western ideas of democracy,freedom and rule of law.
