The Populace Society In Modern Beijing

Xiangsheng was a modern Beijing populace entertainment modern Beijing,by examining the performance field of Xiangsheng,the class mobility of Xiangsheng performer and some discourse reflected in Xiangsheng,this thesis aims to examine the public space,class mobility and public discourse in modern Beijing populace society,and try to roughly outline the basic characteristics of modern Beijing populace society.As public space,performance field of Xiangsheng like Tianqiao,Dongan market and temple fair,was not came from the government and the elite,instead,populace and the government and the elite went its own ways.The activities of populace in public spaces basically did not produce the publicity of civil society,but more to maintained the normal operation of daily lifeIn class mobility,by examining the sources of population of the Xiangsheng performers and rickshaw pullers,this thesis believe that the modern Beijing populace society is all-embracing and full of mobility.Not only will it was able to accommodate the declining elite represented by the banner people,but also had enough room to promote social mobility within populace society and to attracted foreign population.Combining Xiangsheng words and other historical materials,this article analyzes the public discourse of populace society in modern Beijing,that is,the populace in the elite discourse,the elites in the populace discourse,and the populace in the populace discourse.Therefore,in the populace society in Beijing,both populace and elites held a discourse system.The two had both been mixed and contradictory.However,there were both contradictions and mergers in the discourse of populace.By observing the modern Beijing civil society through comic dialogue,this thesis finds the Beijing modern populace society had a very strong tension.In the public space,social class,public discourse,Beijing modern populace society with its unique tension,to absorbed and tolerated different elements.This social characteristic had also affected the view of the elite in Beijing and had became a unique force for prodding the political and social changes in modern times.
