"Yan'an photography" is a political and cultural phenomenon which is formed in the special historical period,and it is the product of Chinese communist ideology.However,due to the shortage of materials,the creation of photographic work has great limitation.The value judgment of "Yan'an photography" has always been spoken poorly of.However,Yan'an photography is beyond the ideal simplification.After the outbreak of Anti-Japanese War,a group of left-wing artists went from the national unification distract to the shensi-kansu-ningsia border region,including wu yinxian.In 1938,the eighth road general political film group was founded in the center of him,and "Yan'an photography" was officially opened.Photographers used very rudimentary equipment to record the life,war and hardworking scenes of the Chinese communists and broad masses.Based on the vivid features of pictures,photography is considered as a weapon,and it has become an important part of the propaganda work and communication work in Yan'an.The mature photographic mode which was formed during the "Yan'an period" has a great influence until today.From the background of the Anti-Japanese War,this paper focuses on photography activities and photos of Wu Yinxian from 1938 to 1946,combining other photographers in the same period to explore the artistic characteristics of "Yan'an photography",and summarize the interactive relationship between propaganda work,journalism and communication work and "Yan'an photography".The paper divided into four parts:The first part introduces the value,reason and research status of "Yan'an photography".and gives a brief overview of the development course of "Yan'an photography" and dividied wu's photographic career into 1921-1937 "art photographer," and in 1937-1946 "revolutionary photographer" two historical stages;The second part adopts content analysis method and wu's photos during 1938 to 1946 as research text,through detailed analysis of these photos from content selection,composition forms,shooting concepts and application of light,study concluded that "Yan'an photography" always holds on the top of the political concept,content of the photos focus on the activities of leaders,image of workers,peasants and soldiers,natural scenery in Yan'an area,etc.Besides the choice of content,photographers also pay attention to the external form of expression,wu is good at using different photographic skills to grasp the dialectical relationship between content and form,and it greatly enhanced photographic works of artistic expression and visual impact,so the content and form of photos are highly interdependent and mutually complementary.The thrid part of the article analyzed the great contributions of wu to the "Yan'an photography" from three aspects: photographic theory,photographic aesthetics,as well as the spirit of Yan'an.In addition,the article also analyzed the roles of other photographers in the development of the " yan'an photography" like Sha Fei,Zheng Jingkang and Luo Guangda.Finally,from the macro perspective,the fourth part of the article concluded that "Yan'an photography" is the right hand of the propaganda work of Yan'an,which has played an active role in both internal and external propaganda.It is also an important part of journalism and communication work of Yan'an,and also left a rich visual legacy for Chinese revolutionary cause.
