From the end of Qing Dynasty to the Republic of China,the Peking Opera reached its peak period.The appearance of the "four famous stars" made the Peking Opera art show its greatest charm.Mei,Shang,Cheng,and Xun,each of them played unique female figures and won the applause of the audience.Cheng Yanqiu worshipped Mei Lanfang as a teacher,and then Xun Huisheng’s son became the first student of Cheng Yanqiu.They have inherited a teacher-apprentice relationship.Mei Lanfang’s path to drama exploration deeply affected the late comers,especially Cheng Yanqiu.The formation of the Cheng Pai is related to Cheng Yanqiu’s performing art on the one hand,and on the other hand,it is related to the playwrights who cooperated with Cheng Yanqiu.Their reorganized repertoire and Cheng Yanqiu’s second creation present a repertoire on the stage,and finally make the drama complete from the script to the stage.Because the genre repertoire ended with a tragedy,the sound of Cheng Pai is sorrowful,so the Cheng Pai’s dramas are often called a tragedy.Cheng Yanqiu played the role of Tsing Yi who plays a leading role,thus formed a tragedy that expresses the fate of women.Because of the wave of the times and the revolutionary background,the Cheng Pai repertoire pursued the creation of "new bottled wines" and new scripts,which resulted in an active and rebellious female image manifested in the genre of repertoire.From the perspective of defining the genre drama female tragedy,this article takes the feminist theory as a blueprint,analyzes the position and spiritual significance of the female image,especially the female protagonist in the genre drama,and analyzes why it caused the tragedy outcome.From the external factors,actors,playwright and styles,we can analyze why the outcome of the play is tragedy.Finally,it analyzes the spiritual significance of the female images performed by the Cheng Pai,and grasps the development of Cheng Pai.It suggests how to develop the Cheng faction and how dramas should be developed.Except the introduction part,this article is divided into three chapters:The first chapter makes use of feminist viewpoints to analyze the status offemale characters in the scenario created by the script,and why the female characters become people satisfied with and what leads to women’s tragedies.The second chapter analyzes objectively and subjectively why the Cheng Pai repertoires could become tragedies,mainly from the perspective of Cheng’s style and Cheng Yanqiu’s personal factors,Cheng’s playwrights and other reasons.The third chapter discusses the influence of Cheng Pai drama and the inheritance of Cheng Pai.
