The Research On Female Image Of Chinese Martial Arts In The 21 First Century

As a unique type of film,the Chinese Swordplay Film has its special narrative mode.Since the 1930s,it has undergone several evolutions and become a mature and influential type of film.The traditional Chinese Swordplay Film has created a large number of chivalrous men and martial artists."Xia" became the male hero’s reference,which naturally constructed the male power narrative in the mainstream social ideology.The female images are in a relatively weak position.The thesis will focus on the female images of the Chinese martial arts films in the 21st century,and then summarize and discuss some representative female images objectively and systematically with literature analysis,case analysis,etc.From the review of the female images of martial arts films in the 20th century,it finds that the evolution is not linear development.These female images can be divided into four stages,from the dominant chivalrous women to repetition of this type,then covered and denied by the traditional man-in-center culture,various characters in the end.Different ages’ thoughts were reflected in the female images of that period.According to the traits of female images in the martial arts films of 21st century,they can be classified as the female images under the influence of traditional vision or trend of times.The representation of female images in traditional vision were mainly the beauty that satisfy the visual pleasure or depicted as stereotyped "saint" and"devil" in the expression of traditional male discourse.Some of the symbolic images that have been repeatedly described can be classified as dangerous beauty of conflict.,the dedicator of love and victim of violence.When analyze the female images under the influence of zeitgeist,they can be divided into two categories:family image and social image,which manifest as transformation of the family image under the influence of feminism and the social image of value pluralism.On the strategy of shape female images,the author discusses it from three aspects:symbolic coding,lens language,and narrative strategy.The costume can reflect the situation of the characters.As the important prop in the martial arts films,the weapon is also t symbol of the character traits.The lens language in the martial arts films mostly use the traditional male perspective,it also attempt to break the film coding mode by using the female perspective.In terms of narrative strategy,it adopts the ordinary narrative theme,use non-linear narrative and fragmentation narrative space and time.In the 21st century,the Chinese Swordplay Film still has a tendency of symbolizing female images.When shape female’s images,there are problems such as excessive consumption on female body,the limitation on setting female characters,etc.In the future,Chinese martial arts films have a lot of room for improvement in giving female more right to speak and trying narrative of gender equality.
