A Report On Buddhist Culture Interpreting From The Perspective Of The Cooperative Principle

Chinese and foreign scholars have carried out researches on tourism and the translation of Buddhist tourism culture from many views and have achieved fruitful results for a long time.Buddhist culture also plays an important role in the development of China's tourism industry.Nowadays,the interpretation of Chinese Buddhist culture is increasingly becoming a theme in the study of Chinese-English interpretation as well as tourism development.However,most studies of Buddhist cultural translation remain in the period of Chinese translation or the study of a certain word.In addition,as an important concept in the field of pragmatics,Grice's Principle of Cooperation has not been fully studied in the field of tourism translation.Most of the relevant researches focus on the application of the principle in tourism texts.There is no systematic discussion of a particular professional area.This thesis is a practical report on Chinese-English interpretation of Buddhist culture.The author puts forward the theoretical value of the Cooperative Principle on the translation of Chinese Buddhist culture through the literature review and the study of the Cooperative Principle.Based on the personal practice materials of tourist interpreting of the Longmen Grottoes,the White Horse Temple and the Shaolin Temple in Henan Province,this thesis mainly analyzes the obstacles and mistakes happened during the task.Under the guidance of Grice's Cooperative Principle,the interpreter categorizes and analyzes the cases and comes up with suggestions to improve the quality of Buddhist cultural interpretationThrough the case study and the reinterpreting the original sentences,the interpreter finds that Chinese-English interpretation of Buddhist culture needs the interpreter to acquire the background information of Buddhism and the ability to express in English.Meanwhile,the interpretation strategies of amplification and analogy could be used to make the target language users better understand the Buddhist culture.This article is a practical thesis,and research materials come from personal practice,which is the limitation.More effort needs to be made in the research and development of Buddhist cultural translation in the future.
